Second graders and their families receive gift certificates for free meals and bowling in honor of students learning to safely ride a bike
Zodo’s Bowling and Beyond announced a special donation of free bowling and a free meal for each of the 75 second-grade students who completed the bicycle safety program at Adams Elementary.
“We are proud to help provide healthy and family-friendly recreational opportunities for the Santa Barbara area. Supporting local schools and nonprofit programs like the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition are a perfect fit for us when we think about how best to give back to the community,” said Sam Walters, CEO of Zodo’s Bowling and Beyond.
“This is a very sweet reward for our second-graders who have worked hard over the past few months learning how to ride a bike, hand-signals, and the rules of the road,” said Julie Churchman, PE teacher at Adams Elementary. “Bowling is a great sport for kids, especially early in their development; it includes movement, balance, and hand-eye coordination. We are very thankful to Zodos for this generous support.”
The bicycle education and safety program at Adams Elementary was the launching point for what has become a bike friendly movement across Santa Barbara County. Adams PE teacher Julie Churchman and Bicycle Coalition Education Director Christine Bourgeois started the program at Adams after learning about the model at a conference in Washington, DC. Adams and the SB Bicycle Coalition have partnered for seven years developing this program. Today, the Bicycle Coalition serves 25 schools throughout the county in the bike safety and education program.
Since Adams Elementary has been one of the longest-term implementers of the education and safety programs, Zodo’s decided to partner with them for this charitable donation. “Bowling at Zodo’s is a safe and healthy recreation option for local children and families. We want to help make other healthy activities, such as biking, more accessible to everyone in the community,” said Sam Walters.
Zodo’s has been a Santa Barbara staple for decades. Located at 5925 Calle Real in Goleta, Zodo’s attracts people of all ages for bowling, food, drinks, and entertainment. For more information about Zodo’s please visit www.zodos.com.
